Aspect ratios: 4:3 or 1:1

长宽比:4:3 或 1:1

Common Etsy and seller guidance prefers 4:3 or 1:1 photos; extreme panoramas clip harder in search thumbs.

Rule 04

Official and seller guidance commonly prefers listing photos in 4:3 (for example 2700×2025) or 1:1 square format. Etsy search and ads crop images into tight tiles; extreme panoramas or ultra-tall shots lose edges in those crops.

Why? Discovery surfaces assume a predictable frame. When your product sits in the centre third of a wide banner, the square thumbnail may show mostly background. Buyers scroll past before they understand what you sell.

TagPeek treats both 4:3 and 1:1 as pass for aspect-ratio heuristics, and shows product-fill in the 1:1 safe zone on local files and live listings where we can read pixels.

Fix: recompose or export with intentional margins — keep the item inside the centre square even if the master file is 4:3. Our re-upload recipe defaults to 2700×2025 so one export can satisfy ratio guidance and pixel floors together.

Aspect ratio is not the same as resolution. A perfectly square 500×500 file still fails the 635px and 2000px rules. Check all three dimensions on the photo checker.

Third-party blogs disagree on exact pixel sizes; we document the conservative union in rules library and link Etsy Help where wording is authoritative.

FAQ

Is 16:9 allowed?

Etsy may accept uploads, but search crops may clip a 16:9 hero harder than 4:3 or 1:1 — we flag low product-fill in the square safe zone.

Should I letterbox to 1:1?

Many sellers export 4:3 with the product centred so square crops stay clean; pure letterbox bars waste pixels if they push detail outside the safe zone.

Does TagPeek enforce Etsy’s exact crop algorithm?

No. We approximate common grid crops and show fill heuristics you can verify visually.
