Etsy Help recommends that listing photos have a width and height of at least 2000 pixels (first photo at least 635 pixels). That is the official wording we cite — recommend, not a clause that says “zoom will be disabled.”
In our own tests, when the shortest side of the uploaded image is under 2000px, hover-to-zoom is unavailable — not a softer zoom, but no magnifier for desktop shoppers. We report that as our observation next to the Help link.
If you miss that floor, nothing in Shop Manager necessarily warns you. The listing can look fine in admin while buyers on the listing page simply cannot inspect stitches, grain, or print edges. That friction hurts trust on handmade and vintage goods where texture matters.
Fix path: export from your camera or design tool at real resolution, or use TagPeek’s conservative re-upload recipe in our rules library — target 2700×2025 (4:3), JPEG about 85%, sRGB, no alpha, under about 1MB — which clears both the 2000px recommendation and the separate 635px first-photo guidance.
TagPeek reads toward full-size image URLs on the listing you have open and flags zoom status as our observation next to Etsy Help wording. We do not estimate sales or promise ranking outcomes from fixing zoom.
Pair this note with Rule 05 (buyer experience when zoom is unavailable) and the free hover zoom checker feature page.
