Current Etsy Help Center guidance allows up to 20 photos and 1–2 videos per listing. Each slot is optional to fill, but empty slots are missed opportunities to answer buyer questions before they message you.
Why does Etsy offer so many slots? Handmade and vintage items vary — scale, texture, packaging, and process shots reduce returns and build confidence. Video can show movement on textiles or assembly on kits in ways stills cannot.
If you leave half the grid empty, you are not breaking a hard ban, but you are publishing less evidence than Etsy’s own UI invites. Competing listings in the same search results often use the full carousel.
When you add photos, the same pixel rules still apply: first photo ≥635px on both edges, hover-zoom needs 2000px on the short side, and preferred aspect ratios remain 4:3 or 1:1 per Rule 04. Do not fill slots with duplicate angles that do not add information.
