Rule 04 · Stick to 4:3 or 1:1

规则 04 · 用 4:3 或 1:1

I learned this when my wide banner looked fine in Photoshop and got chopped in search. Buyers only saw half the product.

Rule 04

What this means: common Etsy guidance prefers 4:3 (for example 2700×2025) or 1:1 square. Extreme panoramas clip harder in search tiles.

If you ignore it: the listing still opens. In search, the square crop may cut off your product or leave it looking off-center next to cleaner tiles.

How I fix it: I keep the item inside the centre square even when the master is 4:3. TagPeek shows that safe zone on local checks so I can see the crop before I upload.

FAQ

Is 16:9 allowed?

Etsy may accept the upload, but a 16:9 hero often loses edges in square search crops more than 4:3 or 1:1.

Should I pad the image to 1:1?

I usually export 4:3 with the product centred so square crops stay clean. Empty bars that push the item out of the middle waste the frame.

Does TagPeek copy Etsy’s exact crop?

No. We show a rough square safe zone you can check by eye — not a claim to match every Etsy crop.
